It's great to be here! Feels really positive. I'm a British writer/artist - my latest novel, Topsy & Co, is centred on the life of the C19 designer William Morris. Looking forward to connecting to old and new friends. Exciting! 🕊🩵
My latest Substack post reflects on the life and work of the iconic fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. Love the theatricality of her designs! And her journey from anarchic punk to rebellious darling of the British establishment is so fascinating. Link in my bio. ✨️

I post short pieces about literature and art on Substack every Wednesday. My latest reflects on one of the most iconic plays of the 20th century - Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams. Link in my bio. ✨️

Decided to read Robert Graves's candid WWI memoir, Goodbye To All That. Such a lucid chronicle of the mundane horror of war! The poem is A Dead Boche, which was inspired by his experiences at the Battle of the Somme. My grandfather was injured during WWI. Always think of him at this time of year. 🕊❤️

I post short pieces about literature and art on Substack every Wednesday. They are quite eclectic! - reflections on the lives and work of iconic poets, novelists, artists, playwrights, and fashion designers etc. I also write about my own experience of working as a writer/artist. Link in my bio. ✨️

My short piece about Federico García Lorca and Salvador Dalí is now live on Substack. Their torturously complex friendship inspired some of Dalí's most avant-garde paintings, and transformed Lorca's poetry and plays. Link in my bio.

Just posted a new article on Substack! This week, I reflect on how Mary Shelley's wildly hubristic life shaped her iconic novel Frankenstein. Link in my bio. ✨️

My novel Something So Precious is set in the South of France and Cornwall. It's about a gifted writer whose world is turned upside down after her parents befriend an enigmatic artist. "A dazzling portrait of the arts and culture scene in the 90s. A compelling story of passion and self-discovery". ✨️

I'm in Madrid! Lorca is the protagonist in my WIP, so I'm visiting his old haunts. The pics are of Teatro Español (where his play Yerma was performed) and Café Gijón (where hosts of writers used to meet). Next, I head to Granada - where he grew up, and was executed at the start of the Civil War.

Enjoying the research for my new novel, but it's pushing my language skills to the limit! Books I'm reading: a memoir by Salvador Dalí's sister (in French); essays about the volatile relationships between Dalí, Lorca, and Luis Buñuel (in Spanish); letters between Dalí and Lorca (in English). Fun! 🙃

Love postgrads, but they're exhausting at times! You talk about the weather - they tell you about their PhD. You tell them about a great film you saw last night - they tell you about their PhD. You ask what they do to relax - they tell you about their PhD! 😆
