There's been a lot of work under the hood to lay the groundwork for moving to a multi-project interface, which won't be obvious without looking at the codebase. As you suggest, this involves unpicking a lot of historical baggage. But it is on the roadmap!

Which particular version? Lots of snapping / grid bugs were fixed in the recently-released 9.0.6
