Which will filter out those whose lawyers don't launch a legal bid. I can see this ending up costing more and taking longer than the current system.

When the Nazis finally realized the British had been breaking their system from the night it was turned on, they were so disgusted they cancelled the whole idea of bomber navigation aids.

Point is, overly-descriptive operation names can give the game away. These days they just sound incompetent.

He obviously hasn't heard of the Nazi Wotan project. British intelligence heard the name and knew it was some sort of guidance system for bombers. From that, they could deduce how it worked and invent counter-measures before the project even went live. 1/

'Twere well it were done quickly: we know something of what the man is capable of when his power is threatened. It would be best for both the country and the world if there is no time for a crowd to gather: it might even be necessary.

And he's threatening to sue the BBC. That could make for some interesting court time, if the BBC make the case that yes, he did incite violence to prevent the lawful transfer of power. I suspect they could make an incredibly compelling case.

The mobile networks wanted to charge for data as though they were a phone. Most people were not prepared to pay another phone bill when they could simply tether.

Red Dwarf did the Talkie Toaster thing: m.youtube.com/watch?v=LRq_... .

Unfortunately, too many companies didn't get the point.

So if some of the surplus capacity added is solar/wind/battery, America gets a larger percentage of clean energy than it would have had.
November 12, 2025 at 7:45 AM
One potential upside, if you believe that this is wrong (eg the AI bubble will pop first) but capacity will be added as though this is true:

Solar, wind and battery costs are all up-front. We save almost nothing by turning them off. Coal, gas and oil cost money to run. They'll be turned off first.

That's not the only consideration, though. One purpose of prison is rehabilitation: making it less likely that prisoners will reoffend on their release. It's possible that encouraging some prisoners to develop empathy by giving them pets is a cost-effective way of reducing crime.

Their only remaining principle is loyalty to Trump, a man whose ideas are so unpredictable there's no coherent ideology to be found. When he dies (or so obviously gets dementia not even they can deny it), this party of opportunistic charlatans will tear themselves apart. There is no saving them.

Arguably, that cabinet was to the left of the current Labour one. They supported EU membership, brought in gay marriage, and allowed a referendum on alternative voting. It's not like Labour have been able to roll back austerity much.

Apparently, last year Ford only sold 109,955 cars in total (in the UK) - fewer than either the Escort or Cortana sales in 1976.

They're in fifth place overall.

How the mighty have fallen.

Idea for film: a soft-porn film starring Daniel Radcliffe, about the composer of Jerusalem ("And did those feet...") and the suffragettes (who in real life were given the copyright to the orchestral version of Jerusalem).

They think they're making Parry hotter.

Remember, a rainbow is made of light. It comes from the sun, refracts through the rain, and ends at your eyes, your mind, and your heart.

Which is where the treasure is.

Possibly playing devil's advocate: climate change kills. China is taking climate change somewhat seriously. The American government isn't. We'll never know how many lives "drill, baby, drill" will cost, but their human rights have been trampled.

So 0°C is the freezing point of water is 32°F, but if the presence of moss, say, made a 0°C change to temperature (no change), you couldn't say it made a 32°F change to temperature (a big change).
October 28, 2025 at 11:37 AM
Fahrenheit doesn't have 0° at the same temperature as Celsius, so when converting between absolute temperatures, you can't just multiply or divide. Your conversion does this shift, which is right for absolute temperatures but shouldn't be done for differences.
October 28, 2025 at 11:33 AM
Agree with your main point, but that conversion between °C and °F isn't right. A change of temperature of 5°C is the same as a change of 9° F.
