King Solomon’s Mines (1950)
I loved this movie as a kid when it played on tv. Stewart Granger, Deborah Kerr, honestly, who cares, snooze. You have to get past the colonialism and the hunting. The fascinating characters are the Africans: tribes, face paint, clothes, dances, villages.

How are we allowing this to happen? We are America. We symbolize a new beginning, creativity, wealth, freedom. People come here to be Americans, not to be rapists. To give their families a chance. We treat them like worthless garbage? I am appalled. I am angry. I am ashamed. Because I am American.

There is a bio about Bob Hope called “Hope” that is very well written. I didn’t think much of Hope having known him most by The Tonight Show and silly specials, but I came away with great respect. Quite the life. Highly recommend the book.

What a sweet mother and child, and I fear so much for what will happen to them in about a week and a half. What a country we are. And what are we becoming?

Their heads would pop off, so kind of the same thing. The way I see it, if I’m to be offed by the Christofascists, a sharp, high-quality instrument must be used. I don’t want a dull kitchen knife jabbing at my neck. This one is chef’s favorite…on sale now at Williams Sonoma!
