Lots of reasons, but I’d say the cost of running for office keeps incumbents in way too long while that cost and the disillusionment with/institutional resistance to change in policy keeps young people out. That’s why the right has more young reps, they’re well-funded and tow the psychotic line.

I’m likely a little older but we also had ‘dumb’ cells @ 12-14, they couldn’t really affect class. I think the issue now is a generation raised by touchscreens w/ literal device addictions. I think parents routinely reading to kids + no phones til 16 or so may be the only real hope for their brains.
