Personally I’m a big fan of these tropes - time travel, rebirth & transmigration (into a book etc) - so I can forgive it if the storytelling is sometimes hampered by its adaptation of the censorship advice

Yes - I guess it partly depends on what is meant by time travel. Aside from the rebirth trope, it’s also common for dramas to use the trope of imaginative transmigration into a book or film script or computer game, etc

They all serve a similar function as time travel, to recontextualise a story

*as I understand your tastes

Not that you will be surprised, but I really liked #SummitofOurYouth 🙂

If a drama has given me sustenance for 90% of its runtime, then I can forgive it for having an imperfect ending

The time travel component was largely dressing; the reason you wouldn’t have liked it* is because of the ML

Nice choice 🥰 - & it is much more capable than it’s pocket size appearance would suggest 👍

Very sweet! 😅

Xu Kai certainly seems to be a cat person 🐈 😊
November 11, 2025 at 10:45 AM
That being said, I think for you watching this drama will feel like grinding your gears - it will feel unpleasant 👍
November 11, 2025 at 10:12 AM
lol - when his ears suddenly appear 😅

(Ok here means I’m respecting the character limit! - but I mean by that that it has redeeming qualities that some will appreciate)
November 11, 2025 at 10:06 AM
There are people who absolutely hate it - but there are also 10 star reviews for it on MDL, which shows there are people who resonate with it

So I try not to be absolutist in my judgement

For me, #OurGeneration isn’t an easy watch, it has a dark side that feels uncomfortable at times; but it’s ok
November 11, 2025 at 10:04 AM
Haha 😜 - I do criticise dramas, but usually only aspects of them rather than rejecting them wholesale

Just as there’s no such thing as a perfect drama, there’s always something to enjoy about a drama I’ve decided to watch 🙂

In the case of #OurGeneration it seems to have divided opinion
November 11, 2025 at 10:02 AM
To be fair on Minglan, she was a top student in their homeschool - as evidenced by a couple of moments when she amazes her teacher (& her father) with the breadth of her political acumen

But she deliberately undersells her academic skills so as to keep herself out of the limelight
November 11, 2025 at 9:34 AM
I generally only read MDL comments to get technical news about dramas, because many comments are impatient & opinionated, & prejudice my own viewing experience

In the case of this drama I can totally understand why people can dislike it; but if you watch sympathetically it’s actually alright 🙂
November 11, 2025 at 9:30 AM
The drama is for sure not for everyone’s tastes! - it doesn’t paint the ML in a very positive light, & his relationship with his mother is pretty traumatic

But the narrative does flip towards the end, so we see why he acts a certain way & that he didn’t have the bad intentions we thought
November 11, 2025 at 9:27 AM
I did say though that I think this drama - #OurGeneration - will get up your nose 😅

The ML is a troubled character on top of being very bright - so I don’t think you will like him
November 11, 2025 at 9:17 AM
I think it depends on which dramas you’re watching

Maybe it’s more true of historicals but a FL who is a genius is not that unusual

In my current drama Minglan is clearly a genius & just as insightful - if not more - as her ML. The same is true of #YanxiPalace, #BlossomsinAdversity & #TheDouble

Not a first time watch, but a first time rewatch ☺️

& really loving it so far!
November 11, 2025 at 9:02 AM
Great list! - it’s nice to see Do You Like Brahms, Jeongneon & Revenant in there 😊

Also, MM, Under the Queen’s Umbrella & Doctor Romantic; great dramas 👍

I haven’t heard of some of these before - eg, Seasons of Blossom & A Poem a Day - so I’ll keep my eyes out for them (& put School 2017 on my wl)
November 11, 2025 at 9:00 AM
However, as my brain has only a fuzzy outline of events, I will bear your comment in mind as I continue my rewatch 👍
November 11, 2025 at 8:46 AM
& though my memory of the story is vague, I think the times he isn’t able to protect her are when he’s away in battles or caught up in political strife

There’s no doubting that a confession like his paints an ideal scenario, but although Minglan suffers after marriage, he does come through for her
November 11, 2025 at 8:45 AM
Even though Minglan does suffer after getting married, I’m not sure I would call it a lie

Gu Tingye genuinely sees Minglan as his equal, which is what his words really amount to

💯

These are very good dramas too - especially #WillLoveinSpring 👍

If Uncle Robin, Carrie & myself are all on the same page about a drama, it must be worth a look 😊
