Born in the 60s, grew up in the 80s. Redundant bookseller (still bitter), work in a school now. Notts based. I mostly like books and music.
My son is at his girlfriend's parents for the first time (in Suffolk). We spoke to him last night when it looked like they were just finishing up the Xmas dinner and he told us they are having another full roast dinner today (same people). Definitely surprised us!

Me too, as an early Xmas present to myself. Inventory is an amazing work in progress and I have read or reread half a dozen books this year based on the podcast.Merry Xmas to all @backlisted.bsky.social and all your listeners.

The album is my record of the year (the record they couldn't have made in 1985) and the first time I saw them this year went straight into my top 10 gigs.

I hope you don't mind a very late reply, I'm catching up. Another lovely piece, thank you. My memories of The Loft are more generic growing up ones without the sadness of your bereavements, but they still mean a lot.

We saw him in Nottingham. He's a star

Going to echo the other replies in that it is Wilco as they, and I, have apparently changed more over the years. Listening to Son Volt feels more like listening to and loving Uncle Tupelo in the olden days. PS doesn't MJ Lenderman remind you of Son Volt (in a good way)?

The Faber Book of Reportage which he edited is excellent

As I well know, there can be more than one person with the same name

City of Quartz is one of my favourite books. The non fiction to go with Ellroy's fiction

Typo: you know that your work etc

I hope that things start to pick up as the daylight returns and that 2026 is a better year For what it's worth I also hope that your work (and I include in that your interactions here) is very much appreciated by a lot of people. PS band names are plural, no discussion.

Thanks for this, I bought Moyshe Mcstiff on cd in the 2000s and love it. I had no idea there was another album so looking forward to listening properly. No comment obviously on which is better musically, but you have to love the cover of MMATTLOTSH!

Yep, I got 76. I'm 58. My wife got 21 (she's not 21). My son's girlfriend (who was 21 but has recently turned 22) got 74...

You've finally worn me down with your Buzzcocks and your CMAT (as well as the books, obviously). Treated myself to an early Xmas present (please don't let on).

Talking to a young member of the family yesterday who had just finished watching an episode of something big and new.
Me: how are you watching that, you don't have Netflix?
Her: (looks at me like an idiot)

I should have said; including this one which I loved

I have read or re-read several books this year thanks to the work of you and your colleagues and for that I am sincerely grateful.

Yes, for people of my age the Hat song unfairly undermined the chances of them being taken as seriously as Fairport Convention or Pentangle for instance. I'm sure there is a quote somewhere about them being the English VU. (But I prefer them with Martin Carthy).

Me too. I thought they were great (never thought I would get to see them live)
