It's been a long time. We had a lot of fun back in cons of yore. Great guy.

You'll be surprised to discover that people who make it to a stage often do so at least partially by way of fame.

It's a little wild to me that this is a premise in a novel I'm working on now, and apparently the wacky 3am idea is legit

However, that lends no divinatory weight to what might come of it.

So my only prediction is that I'll be very surprised if he's not a figure in national politics for as long as he's willing and able to be. It's been a while since I think we've seen someone with that kind of potential, political acumen, rizz, whatever you want to call it.

And this is far from the first time he's managed to escalate the local to national airtime. Some of that is because of the "NY and LA" thing, sure. But not all of it.

If absolutely nothing else comes of it, in political terms, that's well worth the price of entry... especially as a mayor meeting a president.

The thing that sticks out to me is how much free national press Mamdani has gotten off of a single meeting. In other words, the amount of analysis is telling, far more than the content of it.

I think if you're in politics you've got to use those tools to improve conditions however you can. But it can't be the only form of opposition.

Yeah, it's bleak.
Corporate capture of the US government has been pretty total for a while. The change over the past 10 years is they're not even trying to keep the mask on anymore.

(I guess that's got a dual meaning in this case).

I know a lot of people are clowning on the OP take, but while "fascism" is probably too fine of a category for what the process of a global collapse driven by (historically) rapid climate shifts actually drive, it also seems like a distinction without a difference at a certain point.
