Back in the UK after the Association of Adaptation Studies conference in Istanbul. Huge thanks to the organisers for a fantastic three days exploring adaptation and eating delicious mezze, hosted at a campus with an energy museum, some ducklings and, of course, their fair share of the city's cats.

Great first day at the Association of Adaptation Studies Conference in Istanbul. Saw some brilliant papers on AI and sound, presented on the Contemporary Screens panel, and ate Adaptation Cake. Have also obviously been befriending some of the city's beautiful cats.

My contributor's copy of Authenticity and Adaptation, edited by @stinaface.bsky.social, finally arrived 🎉. My chapter explores how different screen adaptations have negotiated the challenges of adapting the Lovecraftian image. Very much looking forward to reading the other chapters!

Co-organising and helping run a big conference over the last 3 days was stressful, exhausting and ultimately rewarding. Great seeing so many friends, meeting lots of lovely people and managing to catch some brilliant papers. V glad though that today I can retreat from it all and relax with this boy.

My first encounter with a physical copy of the Authenticity and Adaptation book, which features my chapter on Lovecraft adaptations! If you're at #BAFTSS2025 then you can find a copy to peruse at the Palgrave stand.

Struggling towards the end of an exhausting term but at least I found the energy for this. Happy Pancake Day!

I'm in here writing about Lovecraft adaptations! Loving the skull-tastic cover design and really looking forward to reading the other chapters when I get my hands on a copy.

I've used this image on my module outline for my week on VHS for the past six years now and it still makes me chuckle each year.

Jacob managed to knock down some of my laundry to make a blanket.

Jacob observing the neighbour's pug from a safe vantage point (I think he's also encountered it very unsafely when hopping into their garden).

Was teaching Alice in Wonderland today then encountered this on my way home, with no context. Felt appropriate.

Nice moody pic of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Birmingham last night. Amazing gig!

Let my cat Jacob outside today for the first time since moving house recently. Thought he'd just have a nervous recce of the garden but no, this little tripod cat is already scampering up the fences and disappearing into neighbours' gardens!
