I'm from England. What are these two things and what's the difference? Is a bedspread like a blanket and a comforter like a duvet? #culturalexchange

My personal literary inspirations for this are various, but foremost among them is Treacle Walker, by Alan Garner. The way he creates in so few words a sense of otherness and magic is something I adore. It's a perfect little book! It think it's terseness would have particular appeal to a poet.

Not much has been written about the Dobunni and Cuda, which was part of the appeal. There's no foundation text for me, but I found some stuff on Google Scholar and the net. I suppose these characters are guests in the mythology I'm trying to manufacture. But I hope they're more than window dressing.

How did I not know about this book?! I'm buying it immediately. The Amazon site has a glowing quote by Katherine Rundell, one of my favourite writers of non-fiction, so I know it's for me. Thank you for letting me know about it!

That's really very pretty indeed.

Actually, if you don't mind me saying, my joy today was surprise connection on bsky (you) and learning two new words: 'pantoum' and what might I think now be my word of the season, 'necropastoral'.

At the core is a goddess of the Dobunni (an ancient tribe of western England), and a catastrophe that befell her. It's the story of her sort-of restitution, told through the eyes of a modern woman. It's really about this woman, and her there-and-back again quest into the wild lands.

I had not heard of a pantoum before today, but I like the form. I'm very far from the midwest, but I can imagine such things from film.

My novel uses pre-Arthurian characters, still lingering and hidden from most eyes. Myrddin Wyllt, a wildman (mythic). The Gurt Dog and the Morrigan (both mythic).

Hi there! I'm 84k words into a novel, 3rd draft. It's contemporary low fantasy with a strong mythic element, maybe a bit upmarket/literary. What sort of poetry do you write?
