There is a Truffaut review in his The Films in My Life, incidentally - but dated 1954 and I don’t think it’s recorded in the book where it was originally published (I think some of the reviews in that book were from Cahiers but not all). And sorry if you already have that!

With hindsight, it’s surprising that the Yellow Pages era didn’t produce more Aardvark-themed entities.

Yeah, the vérité is the thing, isn’t it? If you treat it a dramatic performance the censoring feels peculiar; if you treat it as a cheerful singalong that brings everyone together for the time of year it becomes more difficult to defend *not* censoring it.

There’s no particular reason he *should* be able to recall the policy underpinning one line of a statute many years later if he ever knew it, of course, but it’s quite something that he was unable to realise the risk of that sort of cheap attack.

Pleased to see I still have this screenshot of him lambasting MSPs - not, of course, of his own calibre - for voting for a particular bit of legislation before it was gently pointed out to him he’d voted for identical legislation in Westminster himself.

I suppose she would get credit if she were able to avoid raising income tax alongside implementing some magically credible revenue raising alternative that no-one has thought of yet hold on I’m getting a phone call from some guy about this bridge I’m buying.

Very possible I'm missing something (apologies in advance if so!) but I think we know only that Daly's art 6 rights were not breached by exclusion of evidence and we still need to hear about Keir?

I’ve happened across maps for a couple of cities of “here’s where all the cinemas used to be” and it’s astonishing just how *many* there were. The effect is obviously magnified by the fact they weren’t multiplexes, but even so…

My contrarian view is that I am now *less* sympathetic to Reeves if, rather than just not saying anything, the agent told her they would apply for a licence and it never appeared. (But that is not the same as actually thinking this matters.) www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Not sure offhand re English law. There is Scottish authority that just walking out when a door is left open is enough to commit the crime of prison breaking here, but I think it would be a stretch to apply that to when the authorities are actively telling you to scram!

Obviously if PAYE is suggesting the flight data is misleading a better approach would be to query with the recipient rather than stop first and ask questions later but I think with these stories you always run into the problem of the state not knowing as much as everyone thinks it does!
