Tbh I don’t think for the most part that’s their objection; they’re mostly left-NIMBYs who are a weird mix of “only public ownership is acceptable” and “we need degrowth because everyone has too much and it’s bad for the environment” (them having a house is okay)

I went to a public meeting where some guy was like “I’m an ecologist and there are possibly rare newts in this car park” but then about two minutes later he admitted he was looking to move and was scared the new development would reduce his house price

If you actually talk to any NIMBYs for more than five minutes it’s clear: they all think new houses will cut their house prices (or they’re a left nimby who is sad we can’t have full socialism and so insists we have housing socialism)
