Genuine question, but could he not just fly on his own dime to Costa Rica and end this? Or if it’s about the money I’m sure plenty of people would be willing to fund him at this point. There must be more to it I’m missing.

If a degree is just a piece of paper you need to get a desirable, good-paying job, someone invents a machine that can do it for you, and the notion that you might go to college to develop your mind for its own, non-remunerative sake is a punch line and an elite privilege, why not use the machine?

Building on this, right after the election a lot of folks noticed Threads becoming a hotbed of left-wing election conspiracies. I think that was a big part of Bluesky’s rise as an alternative to X but also to Threads.

I feel like that’s actually how the internet’s financial structure should have ended up, with smaller micro-transactions being the way content is supported, either completely instead of or at least in addition to ads. Alas, this is the darkest timeline and so obviously not how things turned out.
