Just reading that the books on this year's Booker shortlist are actually literary instead of the latest fiction gimmickry. Praise be!

I was just getting comfortable, sitting down to watch a new Britbox drama after some sushi and wine with my significant other, when I get an email from Guernica. See below. Give me a minute. I have to pick myself up off the floor.

Brilliantly and succinctly stated.
Picking up a book let's you briefly step into another's life.
An avid reader will live many lives.
They glimpse what it's like to be someone else, to teeter on death's edge, struggle, succeed, climb a mountain, lose a loved one, fight for humanity.
And that breeds empathy.
We need more readers.

We need to appreciate the rugged weather of our beautiful island. The endless spring rains, the daunting snowstorms, even the disgusting gusting winds that whip the face off you, and drive rain uphill. These natural elements are the earth's force of beauty. We will miss Gaia when she's alone.
