Here's the Humboldt area with the existing NFTA bus routes in blue. Not bad coverage.
Current East-West lines include Delevan Avenue, Ferry Street, and Utica Street. North-south include Jefferson Avenue, the Humboldt Parkway, and Fillmore Avenue.

Hmm. A few random thoughts. The northern section of a restored parkway would come within an extremely short jump of the existing train line. A line heading East towards the airport seems an obvious choice. I don't know that the Humboldt itself needs the high-volume, long-distance service.

Thinking about a Niagara line.
Previous map amended to include a line from downtown, through the West Side, through Tonawanda, past the Niagara Falls airport, to the border with Canada because why not. My Amherst line is looking kind of shrimpy, like it wants to go to Pendleton, but I've never heard of Pendleton until now so I guess they lose this round. A close-up of the proposed line. Branches off of the existing line at Edward Street, cuts underground to Symphony Circle (Kleinhan's Music Hall; good stop), follows roughly 14th street (but this would all be underground) until it hits Grant, follows Grant Street towards Buffalo State College.

Rainy Sunday Activity: Fantasy transit systems. Where would you put the line to Niagara Falls?
A map generated in QGIS. Base map is the Open Street Map for Buffalo and some of the surrounding suburbs. Thick lines indicate current and proposed infrastructure. The existing line would be extended to Amherst. Also suggested are an airport line along Genesee Street, a line along Broadway just to turn Cheektowaga into a commuter suburb, a windy route through West Seneca to East Aurora, and a line that goes to Orchard Park (to the stadium ideally) via Lackawanna. No route has been suggested for a line running to Niagara falls via Tonawanda, but I'm thinking about it.

I think there's a bees' nest near my porch. Debating extermination. Ideally we won't bother each other, but sometimes one gets in the house and I DISLIKE. Anyway, the poor things are all freezing to death right now so it's not urgent I decide.

BEAD is authorized under the Inflation Reduction Act and has awarded grants to states, which are now rolling out their plans for spending. NY is funding a number of programs:
Statewide Digital Equity Plan and grant program to support New Yorkers’ use of the internet to participate in our society, democracy, and economy. Rural Broadband Grant Program for areas that lack broadband infrastructure (“ConnectALL Deployment Program”). Local Connectivity Planning and 21st Century Municipal Infrastructure Grant Program for municipalities, nonprofits, and other entities to construct open and accessible public broadband infrastructure (“Municipal Infrastructure Program”). Affordable Housing Connectivity Program, a partnership with New York Homes and Community Renewal to retrofit affordable housing with broadband installations as part of the agency's overall housing plan. Connectivity Innovation Grant Program to develop creative broadband solutions and ensure New York is a global leader in pioneering future breakthroughs.
