I run a charity with my wife (One And All Aid), which funds education for Yezidis, following the 2014 genocide. In my spare time I fish and write. Two fishing books have been published, and my new book is a comedy adventure novel, Criminal Bycatch.
"Nigel Farage is an abomination."
Not a fox, but my hair was ginger when I had any.

Added to the horrendous cost, the US has worse medical outcomes than the other countries on the list.
Apologies for the technical terminology, but the US healthcare model is shitty.

Agree 100%. Not a Scouser, just someone else who despises the despicable.

The house band will be Murph & the Magictones.

Thank you.

There also is a significant waste of resources in an insured model. Providers want to be paid, insurers want to pay as little as possible. So both sides employ expensive staff, on one side to present claims in the best way, on the other side to disqualify as many claims as they can.

Well said, it is indeed slavery land (though the genteel term is "indentured labour.") The highways are lined with flowers, planted every morning by men who live in hot bed hostels. The lucky men have spoons to dig with, most use fingers.
Besides, Isabel Oakeshott & Richard Tice live there,

Isn't there a drug test?

It also validates the old saying: "No good deed goes unpunished."

Ex Vice (rather apt) Admiral or serving Captain?

Exactly.
True story: when my first wife died, I got lots of demands for uninsured excess charges. Most were $10 or $20, so I paid them. Then one for $1600 for an MRI. I checked the details before calling the provider. The alleged scan was done after she had been cremated and buried.

This government is in the gutter, but I'm looking at the stars.

Indeed, the US model costs most per capita of any country & delivers the worst outcomes of any wealthy country - for obvious reasons, it has inefficiencies & rentiers baked in.

How about some optimism? Try someone with moral compass:
Alf Dubs
Doreen Lawrence
Billy Bragg
Gordon Brown
...

Thank you.
I'm optimistic because I'm not alone in wanting to see politicians value people as people & connect with them at a human level. In other words I'm sick of the likes of Trump, Miller, Farage, Starmer, Jenrick .. putting us in boxes so we can be vilified as trans, migrant, etc.

I don't know, there's a difference between bias and outright lying.
November 9, 2025 at 5:36 PM
Indeed, but I suspect the joke is lost on Trump & his groupies.

When I was a student we made our fires in the rubbish bin.

It was a metal one, I'm going back a few decades.

The other day I spent a long time on the phone trying to get UC for a homeless guy. A local community organiser overheard some of the exchange, then explained, "The problem is that successive governments have just wanted the homeless to sleep in the long grass and freeze to death quietly."
