When we started posting the Iconic Hero art, I started writing tweets with quotes. Eventually I needed more than one tweet to get the idea across and so the quotes turned into scenes and eventually...whole chapters. Two chapters!

So, this is GLASS.

Embers looked at Dazar and thought about the best way to answer the question.

"He saved my life," she said.

The polder hopped off the table and the whole room rushed to congratulate Vaant. Shake his hand. Buy him drinks.

"But that's not how it happened!" John said.

Jackson sat down next to him, grabbed his drink, shrugged. "Yeah but it could have. Anyway, you said we needed a folk hero. Now we got one."

The gate, or door, or whatever it was started to close. With Jackson Bootblack on the other side of it.

"Embers!" John called out, but the high elf was surrounded.

At that moment, a detonation. An explosion of sound that knocked the demons back. And a giant stood before the Egress Demon.

"My sister died leaving my brother chieftain. I couldn't save her, I couldn't lead. Now I am an exile. How clever the dead are, to torment us from the grave."

"We need the Howling," John said. "If we get you your tribe back...?"

Khorva sighed and was silent for a while.

"I'd rather go fishing."

"Vaantikalisax," Gwillyv whispered. She looked at John. "I saw him once. As a child, in Blackbottom. He seems dour now. Ill-concealed anger that never sleeps."

"He didn't used to be like that. When we were younger it was...duty, courage. Camaraderie." John watched his friend.

"Then Omund died."

"You left your people," Embers said.

"My people left me!" Dazar barked. "When they embraced Ajax!"

Embers just watched the dwarf.

"I thought leaving might inspire my people to..."

He looked at his mug.

"Eh, it matters not. I could not have stayed in any event. I lack the stomach for tyranny."

"You trust this elf?" Dazar asked.

"With my life," John said.

Dazar nodded once, sharply. "Myself as well, then. But we seven.... It is a mighty task you set for us."

"You keep us alive," John said, stoking the campfire. "I'll get us close."

"And then?"

"And then...Embers will do the rest."
