The Copilot Delusion
Chapter 1: My Coworker, The Programmer A shell of a man—more of a parrot than a person. My boss, a true believer in the sacred rite of Pair Programming, chained myself and this "programmer"-colleague together like conjoined twins from different planets. We shared a keyboard, but not a

Sounds like some interesting performance improvements in Postgres 17/18 for active record flavoured queries. If only I was using rails at the moment…

Big Problems From Big IN lists with Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL
Introduction If you’ve created web apps with relational databases and ORMs like Active Record (part of Ruby on Rails), you’ve probably experienced database performance problems after a certain size of data and query volume.

weirdly tactical blog post, but it was odd that I couldn't find this anywhere when I needed it: Querying AWS CUR v2.0 data using Athena https://yob.id.au/2025/05/17/aws-cur-20-athena-table.html

Photo from The Age taken at a pub event for Kooyong candidate Hamer with Dutton. She looks like she’s contemplating the horror of returning to life in fintech and he looks like someone just asked him if he still wants to live in Sydney if they win government.

Labour and Monique Ryan are sending me SMS reminders that prepoll in Kooyong is open from today, but I haven't lived in that electorate since 2009.

I wonder where their elector data is coming from?

If you care about #aws, this from @Quinnypig is a big deal: https://www.duckbillgroup.com/blog/ec2-reserved-instances-are-being-deprecated/

Tl;dr: Reserved Instances are being quietly deprecated .

New job, new editor is working out surprisingly well. I’ve been using helix and LSPs for a few weeks, and LSP support has been immeasurably useful while learning typescript.

There’s definitely a velocity tax while retraining my muscle memory though…
