🇵🇱🇩🇪🇪🇺 Research Coordinator at @democracyreporting.bsky.social, working on re:constitution programme - rule of law in the EU. Lives on a Berlin-Poznań-Warszawa train. "European Elitist". He/him. Full-time nerd. I'm a fan of bios longer than 160 characters.
With this part of Poland not celebrating independence until the German temporary squatters were forcefully evicted a few months later, St. Martin's Day eclipsed the independence celebrations, leading to funny scenes as Warsaw endures the far-right march and Poznań eats a lot of this:

🇵🇱🥐 It's 11 November, which is Remembrance Day for most of Europe, Independence Day for Poland, and St. Martin's Day for Poznań and Greater Poland, so I managed to get a hold of St. Martin's croissants at a Polski Sklep in Berlin and serve my colleagues this croissant bowl.

But! I harp on Germany often, but I know when to praise the country for its moments of brilliance, such as the "Wagenknecht capitulates faster than Ukraine" headline from TAZ.

🇩🇪🖥️ Tell me that you are working at a German organisation without telling me that you are working at a German organisation.

Top-notch HFHR lawyers dr Marcin Szwed and Maciej Nowicki blasted the ideas for dealing with "neo-judges" by Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek, and drew a toasty rebuke (and some misspelling of names) by HFHR board member Prof. Wojciech Sadurski. Pluralism of opinion! 8/

First of all, whoever was in charge of identifying the participants for the AFCO panel needs to take a long, sobering walk outside. Ending up in a situation where a dean of a renowned law faculty quits your event is not a good look. 2/

*coughs* ah, so that's how BlueSky moderation works. So, take two: dear Academia dot edu, please go screw yourself.

I really hope that whoever got the assignment "please embarrass IDIOT DUMB DEMOCRATS by making a SPOOF OF THAT MYSPACE THING, but it's DEMS BEING ANTIFA TRANS" will write a memoir someday

Hey, I thought I wasn't important, but here I am, living in your head rent-free, probably forever.

A few years earlier, as the voices to quit ECHR started gaining ground in the UK, The Guardian produced a comedy sketch on the UK quitting the Convention, featuring Stewart. It was a very good video, so I suggested hiring Captain Picard to do a short video on the rule of law in the EU. 3/

🇵🇱⚖️🇬🇧 The European Convention on Human Rights turns 75 today! Everyone in this biz has a convention story, be it as an applicant, litigator, researcher, judge or sometimes a government agent before ECtHR. My Convention story is one about Patrick Stewart. 1/

🇪🇺⚖️Probably not the best thing to read in @politico.eu Brussels Playbook today if you're working at Commission's DG JUST. Looking forward to the analysis by @liberties.eu on the part of the EU rule of law toolbox that increasingly fails to live up to its promise.

Reading now that there are Very Online Polish People angry that the video doesn't feature any iconic view of Warsaw. Not sure if they know that they're asking for a wide shot of the Palace of Culture, a building the very same demographic hates with the passion of a million burning suns.

🇪🇸🇮🇸🇩🇪🇬🇧🇵🇱 I appreciate the idea of Rosalía's "Berghain" being the new European anthem, but I keep thinking about whether the fact that the video was shot in Warsaw isn't some metaphor for CEE being the assembly line/outsourcing place/logistics centre for the West.

🇵🇱🚅🇵🇱 Happy to report that the return journey is day compared to previous one's night - one of the newest PKP hybrid 1st class compartment/2nd class airplane style carriages, with power, lights, airco and everything Europeans expect from their railways. (OK, the seats could be a bit more comfy)

🇵🇱🪦One consequence of my intense dislike of Warsaw is that only now I got to visit the Powązki cemetery. Very climatic, but the persistent police heli hovering above the place kind of ruins the atmosphere.
