On 7th October 2023, Hamas chose the dynamic of hatred over the dynamic of peaceful coexistence. Their goals were genocidal and they knew the consequences for the Palestinian people and accepted them as good PR. And the Israeli government played along in maximising the harm for both sides.

Wenn es um die Verteidigung der Demokratie gegen äußere Feinde geht, ist die Linke genauso wie die AfD ein Sicherheitsrisiko. Konsequent und richtig, dass ihre KandidatInnen nicht ins Geheimdienst-Kontrollgremium gewählt wurden.

Wenn es um die Verteidigung der Demokratie gegen äußere Feinde geht, ist die Linke genauso wie die AfD ein Sicherheitsrisiko. Konsequent und richtig, dass ihre KandidatInnen nicht ins Geheimdienst-Kontrollgremium gewählt wurden.
Add-on thought after yesterday’s talk with Shoah survivor Renate Aris at @tudresden.bsky.social: Yes, we live in scary times with a war going on in Europe. But it would be way scarier if Ukraine had been occupied within three days and Russian fascism was taking over. Losing is not an option.

The US-Ukraine agreement about the sellout of minerals against a vague hope of military support is there. If this is not a wake-up call for how badly Europe is failing its democratic promise, then what else could be? If this continues, our future will not be fight for values but for mere survival.

If Ukraine is forced to accept the Trump deal, then we are at 1938. This is what appeasement and false allies look like. The question: How much is Europe willing to defend its freedom on its own?
