It took New York 8 years from 1817 to 1825 to build the 363 mile Erie Canal connecting the Great Lakes to the Atlantic. It took my beloved city of Charlotte 4 years to widen a 1 mile stretch of our longest greenway. We still have about a 1/2 mile stretch that is closed, so 5 years and counting.
