“Though we seemed dead, we did but sleep: advantage
is a better soldier than rashness.”

Marx inspired, but not a Marxist: “don’t tell me that you understand, until you [read] the man.”

I enjoy blacksmithing and other means of, er, production.
First successful forge weld today.

Blacksmithing: attempting to make a nail header from “higher carbon” RR spikes. More drawing to do, and then forge welding. Looking forward to the mistakes to come.

Well, I didn’t buy anything for the last 23 hours and 40 minutes. I hope my sacrifice has helped effect regime change and destroy late capitalism.

I’ve been drawing things lately. It’s fun.

Ain’t no negative like a biopsy negative because a biopsy negative means you can stop worrying about one specific thing which these days I’ll definitely take, if I’m honest.

Back from hospital. Paralyzed, but might get better. Also high as a kite right now.

Just a gratuitous picture of the dog looking handsome (and me looking like a hobo).

@henrylienauthor.bsky.social Fantastic work, Henry. I’m glad I didn’t have other plans tonight.

While my election-related battle vs despair continues, I’m at least at the point now where I’m starting to feel things again. Sure, “things” is just “thing,” and that singular “thing” is “rage.” But it does vary from “white hot” to “cold and determined.” I still don’t know what to do, though.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Curious about when we go from “Joe Biden’s fault” to “No one could have ever foreseen this” as the explanation for the most recent completely foreseeable heartbreak/disaster/tragedy.

Last night I finished the outline for my second novel. Plot grid next. For real this time #writing

Why have we let ourselves normalize 1500 sq. ft. houses starting at a half million dollars?

The difficulty is that over the last decade or so and in the coming decades good governance will really only mean keeping things from getting worse as quickly as they would have. #democracy

I am very cautiously integrating ChatGPT into my fiction writing process: it helped me remember some beats I wanted to include in the plot and to visualize the beast in the world I’m creating. I’m calling it a haa’boon at the moment (horse-baboon, get it? Of course you do). Is it cute? Creepy? Both?

SoCal peeps: if you’re running an air filter today, don’t forget to close you chimney flue. In other words, don’t be like me.

The picture from the Carter Center is fun, but remember that the service wasn’t the first time Jimmy Carter helped bridge political divides.

Is the zuck-bezos-musk stuff veering into uncanny valley self-parody? Like the kind that feels more Scooby Doo villain than real? Like the kind that not so long ago we would have knowingly chuckled at and said, ah, at least that will never happen? Except now it is and… ffs.

If you've lost power due to the wildfires around LA and are using a portable generator, remember to keep it outdoors and make sure your carbon monoxide alarms are working.
