Mississippi Nights was legendary. Not East St. Louis though. Also, the cigarette smoke was usually so thick in there that I’m amazed this photograph was possible.

Sentry mode must be turned on, and it drains the battery. If these are not customer owned cars, or if the cars are in for service, sentry mode is likely turned off to reduce power consumption and extend battery life.

…nor do I think they exercise the imagination as strongly as picture-less books do. It is important to let the reader create the look of characters, places, things in their own mind. That’s part of the joy of books.

If anything, I feel the pendulum has swung too far in favor of picture books, at least for kids. The book fairs at my daughter’s school are 70-80% picture books. I don’t mind graphic novels and the like, but you won’t learn important writing skills from them like sentence and paragraph structure…
