In situations where the domain you work in is highly regulated (like my work), I see a benefit. There are so many “T” to cross and “I”s to dot, you can’t always afford to “fail fast” as “failing fast” leads to fines. Not something that is immediately addressable with Scrum but the extra checks help.

I have experienced the drain from constant status, grooming, and whatever ceremonies. Added up, they are a huge time sink. In an environment where you need to move and deliver fast, Scrum just ain’t it.

Sizable teams where smaller feature teams may not exist might benefit so people are engaged in efforts that they might not be directly involved with and can contribute to the conversation. Then you might have to ask, “Why not just have smaller feature teams?”.
