The bird was a means in the story for some information to be intercepted by the heroes. Somewhere along the way that story point was refined and the bird ended up not being used. It’s kind of hazy as by the time they were shooting R1 I’d moved onto TLJ preproduction.

I have AppleTV but use my Panasonic Tv remote. Can’t remember how I set that up and have no idea where the Apple Remote is any more. All I seem to do is randomly stab home/back/exit/source till the screen I need appears. Can’t say it’s any better but at least I only have one remote to worry about.

Those would have been designed by the Costume dept rather than CFX. Probably aliens.
