the god damn rock paper scissor's combat drives me crazy I hate not knowing if my moves will be suceesful or not.

it feels so incredibly wonky that the may main gameplay gimmick is rock paper scissors but only sometimes

I'm hoping mid game gives a bunch of skills so I'm not relent on plain old attacking.

Also not controlling my monsters is hugely upsetting

I've beaten the game, I really liked it. Like goty contention liked it

Only complaint is gameplay was stale. But on various points story reasons would change how the gameplay reacted which was cool.

The story, music, characters and everything else essentially was sooooooooo good

A solid 9.5/10

Finished ep 3, this is such an interesting game.

Did the first 2 eps last night. It's expertly written, very funny and as a ex-comic book addict I enjoy it poking fun at super heros

Scratch that I have beaten dq2. I think I may have over grinded a little too much
November 9, 2025 at 11:23 PM
On the dq2 final boss. I loved this game so much it almost makes up for how rough dq1 was
November 9, 2025 at 11:18 PM
It's truly mind-boggling how much better dq2 is compared to 1 (from a gameplay standpoint) and 3 (from a story standpoint).

Having story members a) exist and b) have stakes and a personality is real game changer in keeping me engaged.

Seeing characters react makes some of the grinding worth it
November 7, 2025 at 10:45 PM
Having party members makes dq2 a lot better.

I feel like I'm grinding for a gear a lot more than I did in 3 but that could be that I am scared of fights from 1.

I hated every second I grinded in this game (which was a lot). But I like the historic significance of it all. It's tropey but that's cause it invented these tropes.

Dq 1 is now beaten by grinding a lot to make my numbers bigger than the bosses numbers
November 5, 2025 at 3:04 AM
I've lied just turn on invincibility for all fights having only one party member has broken me mentally and emotionally. There is a reason why JRPGs have parties
November 4, 2025 at 12:00 AM
I've decided to lower the difficulty, turn on invincibility and then grind like hell when stuck on a fight for more that 5 attempts
November 3, 2025 at 11:37 PM
I keep running into the fact that I don't have any party members and because of the limited moveset of the hero I feel locked into these wars of attraction where I can lose a fight that's been going on for ten minutes because my numbers aren't high enough or I miss a critical piece of gear.

Dragon Quest originally came out in 1986, a time when RPGs were very crunchy. The remake is also very crunchy

I think the game needs a way to grind up money to buy gear or something

So far enjoying it.
It's very go to place, fight a boss, learn about next place to go rept coded

Combat gets fun once you get overpowered but the second you are missing the current version of a weapon (single, pack or all hit) than you just slowly question your sanity.
