This is the same reason YouTuber lighting is so same-y across so many channels, avoiding gradient commonly referred to as banding. Instead of a gradient you end up with bands, usually because color is dropped from 10-bit to 8-bit

Here’s the most relevant bits of the IRE scale if you’re not familiar
Lots of contrast has become increasingly popular, but contrast tends to produce more gradation in light fall off. This is only a problem due to streaming compression. Platforms would rather shoot flat than spend 10% on bandwidth

Here's what the raw footage looks like. DaVinci's masking leaves some things to be desired, but it's still incredibly powerful. Masking the sky to hit it with the dehaze tool, and then manipulating highlights in the HDR wheels did 90% of the work here. Didn't even end up modifying the color tones

Working on my color grading knowledge/tricks with some footage I took at Saltwater State Park a couple weeks ago. Frame from the original footage in the replies for comparison but I'm pretty proud of how this turned out. Couple of minor nits to pick, but a hell of a long way from a year ago
