Indeed. Happily, by the time I read 'Save the Cat' I'd learnt to take what I needed from writing 'how to' books and ignore what didn't work for me, but someone less experienced could easily get snared by that prescriptive mentality.

The actual lesson in the title is, I think, useful for newbie writers; the checklist approach to structure less so but if memory serves it's mainly for screenplay, rather than fiction, writing.
