See, I can keep secrets! I won the Sand Hills Prose Contest in Feb but waited until now to reveal it. Its for People You May Know, my hymn to friendship and lament for its loss, a personal favourite of mine. Sadly it’s not online but you could order the mag. Look at the cover! sandhillsmagazine.com

More writing news! So happy my 1950s gay romance - All These Things I’ve Never Done - has won 1st place for short story in the Yeovil Arts contest. Maybe my gentlest story & happiest, & I love the judges comments. I work hard at my understatement!

More new awards I hope editors consider. The Monarch Queer Literary Awards - with a range of options for editors to nominate writers for, including short fiction, non-fiction, poetry etc. Stories don't have to be directly queer as long as the writers are. Accepting noms until November. monarch.gay

"I'd put our stories against the biggest publications out there. Case in point, Jaime Gill's "Black Sky, Blue Earth". A man lost in space, a planet past the point of peril, and a heart that can't let go." By the Oyster River fiction editor. I love them.

The Smashing Pumpkins in their early incarnation were incredibly cool precisely because they were so aggressively uncool. And because even if you put them into identical silver suits they still looked like they were from 4 different bands who’d been flung together in a scheduling mishap

I don’t think I’ve announced an acceptance before… but then I’ve never been accepted by The Forge. This is a very big deal for me. I revere the stories they publish & have besieged them with mine for 18 months. They finally cracked. “Ghosted” will appear in Jan 2025. Thank you @theforge.bsky.social!

I’ve been writing for 2 years and while my stories have mostly appeared online (great as I can share them) some have also ended up in beautiful (planet destroying) print. I’ll have a whole book to myself one day. But for now this is still a long-held dream I can touch. I suppose that means it’s real

So, two things are true about me and the NYC Midnight contest. I am doing very badly in 2025. And all of my horror stories so far have performed poorly. So... obviously I am entering this.

With 2025 being, on multiple fronts, the worst year of my lifetime, it’s important to look for the little joys. Only T-Rex/Marc Bolan fans will understand why this pop-up warning from my Cambodian online bank warning against scams on the Telegram message app brought me SUCH JOY

An infrequent reminder that I do have a life outside of writing. Here I am in the mountains of Uzbekistan, making the most of my 16 hour gap between flights.

Please read The Drinking Game. Not because my interactive, autofictional #alcoholism story won the Subnivean Fiction Award. Because it’s probably unlike anything you’ve read before (it’s half story, half game) and might madden & enlighten you. Go on. Just one drink

Brand new flash! This won second in Flash Fiction Magazine's quarterly contest and is about how tattoos chronicle a life. The main character resembles me (Northerner, Prince fan, traveller, quarter Scottish) but is a parallel dimension version. Thankfully.
