I hope that the intent was to embolden and encourage; as music often does in desperate, difficult times. They performed the piece well and really embodied the moment in the musical, like you said. For whatever reason the choir sang, I’m grateful that they did. Thank you for taking the time to msg. 🩵

I agree—singers often do! Pieces are selected by choral directors for their relevance to the audience. I’ve witnessed these selections as modes of engaging people who otherwise wouldn’t see themselves in the “story”—to
me they are neither aimless nor forceful curations.
