Thanks for the stimulating session on Holocaust Remembrance yesterday evening with Alex Maws and I bought a book to go with the one from last year that I have still to read….there’s a Japanese word for this.

One of my favourites inspired by a 70s battle comic called ‘a Sunderland named Bertie’. Had a uni class on Homer in the 80s taught by Dr Pinsent who told us how to attack a u-boat from when he was aircrew. He also said he had been taught how to fence by a member of the Russian Imperial Guard.

You have any nice photos of Flitton church, perhaps the de Grey mausoleum? Would be lovely to see it again

Get a copy of Squadrons Up by Noel Monks published in 1941 and you can read about him No 73 and No 1 squadrons in France. His white silk scarf was (not sure if it still is) on display in the Imperial War Museum in London. Bit of a childhood hero. Tragic death.

See you made the OB magazine! Been tempted to write to the President for a while now about how shit it was in the 70s. Don’t need an apology but would like to see it acknowledged.

I quit PhD in 89 in recognition that I had neither the languages nor aptitude for it and went off to be a nurse. Not a nurse any more either but that’s another story.

Read the emails, take the magazine. Quite conflicted about the experience. It’s changed hugely I would imagine. I do question the role of public schools in our society.

Apparently, but not always for the right reasons. Last time I saw you was in Senate House in the late 80s I reckon.

Good grief, and yes, didn’t expect reacting to that to be my post. Tend to use the pseudonym John now
