On one hand, I’m complaining about a meme. Yet this isn’t a potshot at anyone; pinpointing one person’s *conduct,* rather than someone’s *experience* here, likely wouldn’t be particularly helpful. But am I crazy? Am I inadvertently scaling some sort of performative-man-apex-mountain?

I’d argue it shapes a lot of social dynamics in male-dominated spaces as well as woman-dominated spaces. Yet I think David Brooks alluded to it, once, in a column about discrimination against people who defy traditional ideas of attractiveness. And I haven’t seen it since.
