I've also managed to take advantage of a recent sale at Bambu Lab to get a set of their 3D effect plates and a SuperTack plate.

I hope that they're more resilient than the 3rd party Diamond effect plate I've been using for over a year. Its surface recently started giving way/partially lifting.

... so that it's sitting on my Ikea Alex unit. (I've put a leftover glass shelf for strength otherwise the X1C setup would bow the top.)

A bonus to using the Alex unit is that it's on wheels. This means that I'm able to access the back of my X1C setup a lot easier for its regular maintenance.

It's assembled and working properly. I'm hoping that this is going to be as good as the reviews I've watched. My X1C setup was getting too tall before, meaning that I had to remove the spool holder that I'd mounted above it. Now that it's even taller I'm glad I'd lowered the setup down a bit...

Its been a few months since I'd become my Mom's primary, post stroke, carer and I think things are just about good enough for me to try getting back onto my things... So I'd ordered a few items to get restarted. I've put some wheels on my Ikea desk, rearranged my room, and this kit arrived today!

Rear arms have proven to be a little problematic for some unknown reason. Its taken a day or so, as well as 5 revisions, in order to get things "just so" where all the holes line up and the spaces are large enough after printing. Next up, redesigning the rear uprights to combine all elements I want.

My first print had a slight fitment issue so, after a quick revision, I reprinted it. I accidentally forgot to include supports but it still printed nicely. The holes were a little less round this time but I'm going to be drilling the final print out anyway so that shouldn't matter.

Beginning of this project starting with a set of long span suspension arms. The body I'm intending to use is the Porsche 934RSR from the TA05 40th anniversary kit so I'll need wider track arms. The arms from the TL-01LA can provide this so I'm recreating them to 3D print another set or two.

Current offer in Lidl, UK. Small Parkside accessories are 3 for £2. I didn't need any of the other bits available but I thought some black hot glue sticks wouldn't go amiss. Although I don't like using hot glue for anything I know that I'll end up needing it for something at sometime, somewhere.

Introducing project 151 (I think) to add to the list of 150(ish) unfinished/non-started projects. 🤣

This is an M-06R from Tamiya, originally released Dec 8, 2012, and I've wanted one since then but only managed to buy a NIB one now.

It's an early birthday present to me, from me. 😁

Starting soon.

I know I don't use masking tapes fast enough to warrant it but I've bought another 6 packs. This'll keep me in good stead for ages if they're anywhere near as good as the Tamiya masking tapes. Tamiya ones can be good for years.

Went down to Lidl today. Good News! They had plenty! (in the branch I went to!) Here's the price on the shelf.

For anyone out there who likes the Tamiya Masking Tape. I bought this 3 pack of 3M Masking Tape from Lidl earlier this week and I've just started using it. It feels almost identical to the Tamiya stuff in both feel & adhesion and it's 50mm wide so offers plenty of coverage...

Started trying to pare back the now solidified ABS slurry. Turns out to be a lot more solid than I was prepared for. My 60 grit sandpaper practically disintegrated immediately. I ended up scraping and it still took all afternoon to get this far. I'll need to thin my ABS slurry a bit, methinks.
March 15, 2025 at 7:29 PM
Lastly, there's the unfortunate printing error of the rear bumper. My first successful prints of both bumpers had quality issues so I had to reprint. The front turned out adequately but the rear had the early 'points' break off during printing. These are now rebuilt from ABS slurry. Useful stuff eh?
March 14, 2025 at 10:55 PM
... the major gaps between the parts. After gluing the main structure together the gaps were so wide that they were very obvious and weren't going to be covered during painting. So I added some masking around the 'glass' and pushed some ABS slurry in the areas to fill. Once cured I can sand it down.
March 14, 2025 at 10:49 PM
The front and rear right wings/fenders snapped as I screwed the adjoining bars. I'd used modellers glue but it didn't hold on the front wing. After a bit of frustration I tried using ABS slurry as all parts are printed in ABS variants and it seems to be holding properly now. Then I tried tackling...

Okie dokie... I went in the totally wrong direction and ended up having to scrap all the changes and go back to the Vertical settings I'd started with. Then I couldn't make any relevant differences. Quality would drop. Clarity would diminish. It really seems like I can't improve my prints further.
March 13, 2025 at 12:08 AM
... which turns out to not be the right answer. The result of the the latest print isn't great. Quality has decreased although clarity is clearer. So I'm dropping temp a bit below the 2nd attempt but upping the flow a bit more. I'll see how that affects things.
March 12, 2025 at 9:09 PM
The first horizontal test was with the last vertical settings and turned out like I'd expected so I upped the temp and flow ratio and it got clearer but less accurate. Feeling like I should up the temp a bit more I upped it another 5°C...

The I/H type beam attempt. It's just as clear as the previous attempt and the added ends migrated the end problems a bit away. TBH I think this is about as good as I think I'm going to get on the vertical. Now I'm going to try horizontal prints to see if I can get better results that way.
March 12, 2025 at 3:00 PM
It appears that my model is too small/short for this experiment. I'm also going to try an I/H type beam design to see if I can minimise the shrinkage as it gets higher. This is just for the experiment, not for general purposes.
March 12, 2025 at 2:46 PM
Actually, side by side, that last try looks a bit clearer than any of the others. It's a shame that it's the worst print out of all of them. Another thing of note is that the purge from the 1.2mm nozzle also looks clearer than the 0.4mm purge.
March 12, 2025 at 1:47 PM
3rd attempt is pretty much the same. I think I've got to dry the filament again. Its been in the AMS for almost 2 weeks now. Even though I've got dessicant packs all over and I put dessicant in each spool it doesn't mean the filament stays completely moisture free. It just slows the absorption rate.
