But this quote from the orchestra's executive director, whose tenure predates the current administration, suggests an astonishing ignorance of the anthem's history as a site for protest. 2/

If you don't read past the headline, you would think this is simply more of what we've come to expect from an authoritarian administration. 1/

The reasoning does not "remain unclear." Starbucks' own website says that they are closing stores all over the country as part of a restructuring, and Fox and Sinclair know it. The goal is to misinform viewers so that they blame Baltimore for these closures.

The contraption on the pillar to the left of the Royal Farms entrance booms out a police-helicopter-like message, ostensibly to deter loitering. (This seems to have replaced their previous approach of playing classical music.) Staggeringly dystopian.

David Smith, chairman of MD-based Sinclair Broadcasting, now owns the Baltimore Sun, in addition to Fox 45 locally and other local TV news outlets across the country.

Baltimore's extraordinary, longstanding grassroots violence interruption organizations have "...probably done some good"? He refuses to think beyond the narrow, regressive, and dangerous approaches of broken institutions that he purports to critique in his work.

We finally made it to "Heavy with History," the Devin Allen installation at the Baltimore Museum of Art. It's been a challenging summer, one that left me feeling uncharacteristically disconnected from Baltimore. Spending time in this room changed that. 1/2

This sign at Johns Hopkins Hospital does not apply to the private, armed Johns Hopkins University Police Department.

I think Patrick McEnroe was calling one of TT's matches the other day; he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near her greatness.

How soon will the students who have been protesting over the past two years be invited back to campus as honored guests/scholars-in-residence?

I had to see Amy Sherald's "American Sublime" exhibit during a whirlwind trip to NYC last weekend. It is a privilege that we can claim Sherald as a Baltimore artist. Her portraits – none more so that this one of Breonna Taylor – look at you more than you look at them.
