I finally finished my Opah for today's #SundayFishSketch 🐡
An illustration of an Opah (a type of fish). This fish is disc-shaped, with a very deep, silvery body. There are white spots covering the body, and the eye is large. The mouth, and all fins are a bright red-orange.

A bit more progress on my Opah illustration 🐡

This is the first time in a while that I've had time to draw for fun, so for an early #SundayFishSketch, I finished my drawing of an Atlantic Silver Hatchetfish 🐡
An illustration of an Atlantic Silver Hatchetfish (also called the Lovely Hatchetfish). The fish is very silvery and reflective and the body is shaped like the head of an axe, with the tail being the thinnest part (like the handle of an axe). The fins are light in color and mostly transparent, and they eye is large and faces upwards.

I've been camping almost every weekend as of late so haven't been able to post #SundayFishSketch, but here is an edited version of my Rainbow Trout illustration with altered coloring in honor of #PrideMonth.

For #EarthDay, here is a drawing of a fish that is no longer around: the Chinese Paddlefish. I think about this fish a lot, and the importance of conservation so that other fish (and species in general) don't share the same fate as Psephurus gladius.
An illustration of the Chinese Paddlefish, a fish that was officially declared extinct in 2020. Psephurus gladius (its scientific name) was one of the largest freshwater fish species. The construction of dams was the main reason for its extinction, though overfishing also played a significant role.

Have been working on an illustration of Chiasmodon niger and decided to modify it a bit to fit today's #SundayFishSketch theme.
An in progress illustration of a Black Swallower fish. This fish lives in the deep sea and is brown to black in color with a long, thin body. It has a pretty large eye and very large mouth that leads to a stomach that can extend to several times its regular size, sometimes even becoming partly transparent. This allows the fish to eat prey larger than itself. In this illustration, I added some colorful Easter eggs in its stomach to fit with the Sunday Fish Sketch theme.

It feels strange to draw fish right now when the country I live in is seemingly plummeting into authoritarianism. So I drew something else, and today it’s finally done. Federal workers deserve to be treated better, and we need the federal agencies that this administration is so intent on destroying.

The outer band of the circle is navy blue with 50 white stars in a ring. Inside that band is a simplified landscape. There are white clouds (representing the National Weather Service) on the left side that intersect with a simplified mountain range (representing the Bureau of Land Management). Inside of the clouds are bright blue lines that make up the facial profiles of two people, which represent the Department of Health and Human Services. The sky is light blue, and a gull that is reminiscent of the NOAA logo flies just below three stars, meant to represent NASA. The mountains morph into a simplified field. The field is made of bands of light and forest green. These bands represent the USDA. A bison and two pine trees stand in the mid-ground. Both are forest green and stem from the dark green bands of the fields. These two symbols represent the National Park Service and Forestry Service respectively. The aforementioned bands then turn into bright blue waves of water at the bottom of the circle. The outer circle is structured kind of like a coin, giving a nod to the Department of the Treasury logo.

A bit more progress on my Hatchetfish illustration for today's #SundayFishSketch 🐡
A work in progress illustration of a Lovely or Atlantic Silver Hatchetfish. The fish is shaped like an upside-down and backwards letter "D" (the capital version of the letter) with a handle coming off of the straight part of the "D". This is where the tail is. The fish itself has very vertically elongated scales and is very reflective silver in color. The large eye is blueish and points upward. The fins are an off-white (in reality they are very transparent).

It's a bit late for #SundayFishSketch, but I wanted to finish the illustration before posting.

The illustration is an abstracted version of the Ukrainian flag, with the sky (and some of the water) being the blue, and the fish and sandy bottom being the yellow. The colors aren't perfect - the discus fish have a bit of orange in them - but I wanted to find a good balance between the colors of the Ukrainian flag and the colors of the fish and sky.

I finally finished my Spotted Gar illustration for today's #SundayFishSketch 🐡
