A big shoutout to the HMRC Bereavement Services webchat. I've used the service twice recently and it's brilliant.

I don't think you can ever be over-cross in such a situation! Also seeing someone genuinely bothered is possibly the only way some people will learn.

We have lived beside a park for 39 years and my husband has always used it for running. He hardly ever had a problem with dogs before lockdown. Since then he has had a lot of issues with uncontrolled dogs and when he asks the owners to recall their dogs he gets verbal abuse.

Same happened with my son when he was about 9yo. The teeth marks in the ball were very deep and it wasn't lost on him that those marks could have been left in him rather than the ball. He's been terrified of dogs ever since.

Happened to me yesterday. So bloody annoying! The thing that gets me every time is when someone says 'He won't hurt you'. How do they know??? An elderly person with osteoporosis, for example, could be badly hurt by an overly boisterous dog.

Be careful what you repost. Her CV (from July 2024) is on her website annlimb.co.uk/about and it's quite clear her doctorates are honorary. If we have to have an unelected upper chamber it seems to me that, on the basis of her CV, she is exactly the sort of person who should be in there.

He is not the news editor, he's the political editor. The role involves holding the government of the day to account and the analysis of political developments. But I do agree that everything has become much more personality focussed and I think that detracts from the analysis.

Not sure if international comparisons are part of the terms of reference. Either way, this was just module 2 out of 10 modules. Have a look here: covid19.public-inquiry.uk

Someone else on this thread has mentioned this, which is worth a look. Despite the title, it was filmed before he was PM: www.youtube.com/watch?app=de...

Indeed. And if they followed Full Fact online they'd have known straight away that the things circulating were incorrect.

It's interesting to see that the Swiss are having this debate. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Switzerland votes on electronic identity cards for second time
An early projection shows voters are evenly split over the policy, which has already been rejected once before.

Not 'potentially' at all, we are all having to provide our ID all the time. There's a real need for it, as the EU recognises with the introduction of its European Digital Identity Wallet.

As someone who holds power of attorney for a blind person, with obviously no driving licence but also no passport, this proposal would make my life a lot easier and stop me needing to jump through so many hoops whenever I need to provide ID for them.

For there to be no comment from the government on Musk's call for violence, let alone action against X, is unconscionable. An utter dereliction of its responsibility for national security and an affront to every member of an ethnic minority, who is being put at risk by this rhetoric.
