Wednesday I will present a paper on welfare for older adults in Leiden, c. 1300-1800. Hopefully inspiring for everyone coming to @esshc.bsky.social to (also) explore Leiden's marvellous cultural heritage related to premodern welfare. Part of the double panel "Age is just a(bout) number(s)".

Demographic record keeping on this portrait in The Monastery of Las Descalzas Reales, Madrid. For this nun age and year at entry (5, in 1646), year of profession (1659) and age and year at death (74, 1715) are given. Similar biographies of Poor Clare nuns have been recorded elsewhere as well.
