Magic: The Gathering enjoyer, mostly pauper and commander these days.
As for competitive formats, pauper is sweet. Come sling bolts and counterspells and blow up artifact lands, it's great.

I used to play allies from time to time. I love the extended art version.

Decision trees are another important concept for Magic. Anyway, it would be cool to do a show with a real mathematician about lessons to take from game theory and you can use prisoners dilemma for the thumbnail, I'll give you that for free.

If you have ever played chess against a computer, the programming was probably made with game theory concepts. MTG is a very complex game, but I think important lessons can be taken from basic concepts like prisoners dilemma (an actual card, and I think tyrants choice is inspired by this too)

One of the cool things about theoretical math is that concepts are proven without applications and years later applications are found. Some applications may not even be known yet. Game theory applies to simple games, like paper rock scissors, but gets more interesting as the game gets complex.

Great episode! I just wanted to elaborate on game theory a little bit. Disclaimer, I am not a mathematician, but I am a chemist that has lightly dabbled in game theory. Game theory is awesome! It has applications in not only government, but economics, marketing and sociology.

I plan on using the money I would spend at a release to play pauper.
