And now it’s all this.

Software guy, indy archivist, and Senior Librarian at @hardcover.app.
You can! Our reading journal has a lot of room for improvement, but you can absolutely take notes—public or private!

To find this, tap the reading menu button near the top of the book page (yellow if TBR or currently reading, green if read), then select “reading journal.”

Summer is basically over but I’m not giving up my back porch and Sunflower Kolsch until I have to.

Here’s what it looks like on device. Had to maximize the space available for books to render legibly. I think they look great!

I finished v1.0 of my @usetrmnl.com plugin for @hardcover.app. Submitted for TRMNL’s latest book-centric hackathon. It’s in review for public use as well.

More I’d like to change, but I’m going to wait for Framework v2.

With the latest @usetrmnl.com update, I'm making some custom components for data points.

Next for the @hardcover.app plugin is making the lower section configurable. The options I'm planning on are:

- Goals
- Currently reading
- Last 4 read
- Randomized want-to-reads

I’ve got them here, ready for a read. I’ll queue it up after the first Mistborn trilogy!

When I set my reading goals for the year, I didn’t expect to read 5 books in the remaining 7 months. Then I did it in 2.

So I doubled the goal.

This probably doesn’t seem very impressive, but that’s not the point. I like reading again. I’m shaking off effectively 15+ years of self-imposed shame.

I was a voracious reader as a kid. From 1st through 7th I read constantly, maxing out Summer Reading points and breaking records in the AR program at school.

Then I moved districts and lost the habit in favor of making new friends.

It’s been nice to rekindle a long-dormant part of my personality.

I’ve been making an effort this year to read more.

I warmed up with some graphic novels. Mostly @boom-studios.com titles. Next, sci-fi/fantasy.

Now a daily habit, I’m tracking my reads on @hardcover.app, an Amazon-free (and soon open source) GoodReads alternative. hardcover.app/@Tender?refe...

I made some progress on @hardcover.app’s @usetrmnl.com plugin.

I couldn't get TRMNL talking directly to Hardcover's GraphQL API so, for now, I'm funneling calls through my own.

Some layout tweaks yet to make, but it's serviceable for now.

Two days with a @usetrmnl.com and I’ve already cobbled together a private use plugin to show off a @letterboxd.social profile’s most relevant stats.

I plan to clean up the metrics a little more to make room for a 4-poster display with the options of: Top 4, Last 4, or 4 random watchlist items.

This is my first published game. It's a little rough around the edges, but we accomplished way more than we set out to. I'm very proud of it and I learned a lot making it.

Let me know if you play!

Coming into the new year, I've been scanning a box of "extra" 4x6 prints from my mom. I've done 400+ now, which feels good. I scan an evelope's worth, then write the dates and captions to EXIF/IPTC data in the JPGs. I batch rename them using this data, then import to Apple Photos.

Did some digging. Turns out Closet Picks is followed by the account allegedly belonging to Charli XCX. Now her fans are obsessively following everyone she does.

For what it’s worth, this account is following some industry people I know that work with her, so I’d believe it.

Wish I could say for certain, but I think being linked to in the Criterion Challenge list so many times has absolutely exploded the popularity of my biggest @letterboxd.social project.

These screenshots are 2 hours apart.

I’ve seen Elf probably 30 times. Tonight I noticed the background actor in the black hat for the first time.

@joshruben.bsky.social is that you?

I bought an old record cabinet years ago at an estate sale. Inside was a neat turntable / reciever combo and this guide to northeast Ohio radio stations.

Published by the Akron Beacon Journal in 1976.

I don’t think there is anything more “millennial” than enthusiastically purchasing 8 boxes of LED Christmas lights that won’t arrive until next summer just because they actually look like the incandescent ones on my childhood tree.

It’s been one of those weeks where I unintentionally purchased the same items twice on eBay. I wish I could say this hasn’t happened to me more than 5 times before.

These beautiful stills are from the first 15 minutes of Akira Kurosawa’s 1985 film ‘Ran’.

I recognize that grassy foothills are a cinematography cheat code, but COME ON. Those compositions! Those colors! The first 15 minutes! #film #akirakurosawa #samurai
