Lancaster Stands Up Is Calling For The Resignation Of Janet Diaz [headshot photo of Janet Diaz in front of the flag of the United States of America] Read our full statement here: We expect a lot out of our neighbors - to live Lancasterian values of justice, leadership, and being a welcoming community to all. We expect even more of our elected officials, and Councilwoman Janet Diaz has not been holding up that standard. She has an established pattern of bigotry and personal attacks, especially towards our Black and Muslim neighbors, that she has been proud to display on social media. Most recently, Councilor Diaz attacked Councilor Ahmed's identity as a refugee and insinuated that he was incapable of holding office because of his background. Her racism, xenophobia, and islamophobia are not the representation that Lancasterians deserve. For these reasons, we join our coalition partners Lancaster DSA and Black Voter Outreach Network in calling on Janet Diaz to resign from Lancaster City Council. [LANCASTER STANDS UP] However, the rise of Janet Diaz and figures like her did not happen in a vacuum. There are very real and justified feelings of lack of representation in our communities. Our elected officials continue to ignore the suffering of our communities, offering only performative platitudes with little political risk, commitment, or policy change behind them. Janet Diaz has found great success thanks to this climate of false promises. She co-opts populist messaging with a regressive vision of exclusion and scapegoating. Racist politicians like Councilwoman Diaz would never have obtained so much credibility if the rest of our elected leaders took action along with their hollow words. [LANCASTER STANDS UP] We look forward to working with our elected officials to pass legislation that betters the lives of our neighbors, families, and loved ones. We also promise to hold our elected leaders accountable when they fail us. A coworker and their friends put together a Mutual Aid group called SPAM in South Philly and they are taking collections.

30th Street Station, you sure are impressive.
Cars park at night under a grand porte-cochère. Tall stone columns support a grid patterned ceiling which is very large in scale. Everything is wet from the rain and the red light from the cars brake lights are reflecting off the wet concrete surfaces.

Upsetting to read Lancaster county employees are being silenced. In this case, by not answering budget questions, the Budget Services department is failing to provide "an open and transparent budget process" to the county and its people. Let them do the job they were appointed to do.
Budget Services In May 2009, the Budget Services division of the Information Technology Department was created. In June 2019, the county recognizing the need for fulltime oversite of the County's budget, created a standalone department of Budget Services. The Director of Budget Services reports to the Chief Clerk. In addition to the Director, there is a Budget Manager and a Budget Analyst in the department. The goal of this department is to enhance and improve the budget creation and execution processes by: • Providing an open and transparent budget process • Providing continuous budgetary oversight and project management • Providing enhanced financial and business process analysis • Bringing stability and ownership to the budgetary process

Well done Sears light bulb in the upstairs hall closet. I only knew you for 3 years, but know you’ve been around much longer. Long may your replacement shine.
