Covering local sports in Nebraska for Hurrdat Sports, Hail Varsity and NEBPreps. Creighton grad. Coach. Writer. Basketball enthusiast.
It was kind of the Suns to at least give us a Christmas Day reprieve from our misery.

Back to reality now. We just can't have nice things for extended periods.

This Suns team can be really fun to watch when they play with this level of effort and activity. Would be nice if it became the norm and not an outlier.

Excited to head to Louisville to cover my 7th volleyball final four in my 10th year on the beat for Hail Varsity/Hurrdat Sports (Omaha, Columbus x2, Kansas City, Minneapolis and Tampa previously).

Never take for granted how lucky I am to cover a program that makes this a nearly yearly occurrence.

There was no way in the world Booker was passing that ball after getting the dunk blocked.
Devin Booker is so petty 😂

Kings Doug McDermott tells me that he and Spurs Harrison Barnes went 53-0 at Ames HS.
Said that he was JV his first 2 seasons in HS👀as a late bloomer. McDermott jokes that he spent a lot of time rebounding Barnes’ misses😂and his own career high was only a 30 piece💯

Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro really tie together the Suns defense in a major way with their length, timing and help defense.

Doing this at a high level as rookies is insanely impressive.

Plenty of costly mistakes throughout made that a close game for Nebraska.

In the end, however, it was 18's drop that realistically ended their chance of winning in regulation, and it was 54's whiff that gave Iowa the chance to win it.

Two seniors who came up painfully short of doing their job.

Book isn't getting anything easy tonight, and he's pressing to get tough shots off before doubles can come. Those shots are not going in.
November 19, 2024 at 3:00 AM
Was wondering earlier if giving Bol a shot tonight would make sense. The game's so har on offense with Mason and Oso playing together, easpecially if Dunn and O'Neale aren't making 3s. Sure enough, here he is.

Don't know if Bud's going to win them a title, but he was a definitely good hire.

Feels like a lot of those paint points are dunks on drop-offs because the Suns can't stay in front of the ball.

Can't afford to give up those easy buckets with how offenisvely challenged they're going to be given their inactive list.
End of 1Q: ORL 26, PHX 22
Jones: 11 Pts, 4-7 FG, 3-5 3P
Plumlee: 4 Pts, 4 Reb, 3 Ast, 1-2 FG
Booker 4 Pts, 1 Ast, 1-4 FG
Bitadze: 7 Pts, 3 Reb, 3-3 FG

Magic up 18-4 in points in the paint

I wonder what would happen to all the people screaming that Okogie flopped if they got hit by someone 40 pounds heavier while trying to slide backwards.

Royce O'Neale making some massive plays and Grayson Allen getting hot at a very good time for the Suns.

Regardless of the final result, this second half from Büyüktuncel might be the most ebcouraging thing I've seen from Nebrasketball so far this season.

They need him to be good, and he has been today.

@theunpackpod.bsky.social Cash that sweet Christian Watson over.

Not sure which side of the court has been more problematic for Nebraska thus far at the Pentagon.

Nebraska is really good at headbutting footballs into a receiver's hands.

Nebraska doesn't have enough playable corners. Hill and Hartzog both complete;y whiffing on plays they need to make.
They're really trying to pick on Hartzog. He held up on the first couple, but they got him on that third down.

Rough two-play sequence for Hill, and USC equalizes.

Nebraska takes the early lead in "Which offenisve change will work out better?" competition (it's 0 to -1).

Dowdell really doesn't see holes, huh? He just puts his head down and plows ahead.

Fortunately he kept his feet after bouncing off the line and found the hole on the second try for that first down.
