I agree, and make full use of desk reject. The responses I get following a rejection can be bitter (particularly if it is a “name”). And it can impact hiring/promotion, funding apps, etc. So I do keep in mind that it is an unreviewable, discretionary power with a very high risk for bias to creep in.
