Former many things, in many places. Fave thing: Philly cabbie. Or maybe Santa Barbara drummer. Or Eugene 9-1-1 dispatcher. Or really, ethnographer all over the place. Anyway, now full time grandparent. Proud dual-national

I love sunset pix, Elizabeth! In our remote mountain canyon there are some spectacular ones and I am always taking pictures of them (maybe I should post a catalogue of them lol)
Anyway, maybe my fave (for the clouds; looking toward San Bernardino National Forest, Fall 2021)

Had been too long since I made tempeh, not sure why bc I love it. And so made some this weekend, enjoyed a ‘blt’ breakfast. And baked a sourdough loaf for the toast (as well as a buttermilk loaf for fun). Checked all the boxes.

Makes me hungry, just seeing it!
Last night I made a carrot cake with golden raisins, pecans and lots of spices, and cream cheese frosting, while watching (out of the corner of my eye) the Giants game

My fresh sourdough loaf early this morning… used ‘Elaine’s sourdough’ recipe & process once again (from my new fave cookbook, The Irish Bakery - fabulous for the pictures and, well, mini-ethnographies & histories w/pictures… eg, wild Irish seaweed), realise (once again!) thrill of learning new stuff

SF’s team RC is below the mlb avg, proof of their batting challenges, but they are doing very well wrt RISP (5th in mlb) - something that likely (alas, unfortunately) will shift back toward avg as the season progresses

Lovely
Best yogurt ever was the stuff I got living in Helsinki - plus there was all those sour milk things (so many types - finally had to ask one of my Finnish students to explain the whole genre to me, we did a tastings lol)

Yes! I love pictures as well - the ones in The Irish Bakery are fabulous, ethnographic

This is America right now, especially for immigrants: authoritarian rule — deportation to a concentration camp prison — with no recourse, no way of protecting your legal and constitutional rights

Starbucks may be killing its English Breakfast tea latte, but this tea style (a strong black topped with frothed milk!) has been a staple in our home for some time now, and it will forever be so

re Trump and Musk claiming they found SSA recipients who were 150 years old, proof of massive fraud - they do not know wtf they’re talking about

Onyx the miracle dog… diagnosed with mega-oesophagus, he was failing; down 8 mos ago from 26 lbs (his adopted weight) to 18, regurgitating often, was put on feed tube - but now, thx to UC Davis & Dr Tarini Ullal, he has stopped regurgitating & is at his ideal weight of 33 - then v now:

Our Burns Canyon home in the San Bernardino Mountains (halfway as the crow flies between Joshua Tree and Big Bear), first big snowstorm in quite awhile…

Add: I got one of those small milk frothing devices and am now addicted to frothy goat milk on top of my tea… plus my typical breakfast of a sourdough slice pan toasted with lots of olive oil and a tomato

Little Onyx the Terrier with his fave dolly
Finding toys of any type, from rock hard chewing things to a stuffed (and so-called ‘indestructible’) dolly, that he cannot chew apart is near-impossible, but this dolly has lasted a long time

Little Onyx The Terrier in a leaping flight, trying to grab the bouncing ball (sorry, just had to post this, his enthusiasm is beyond measure - considering he was on a long grim slide only a few months ago, it is blessed miracle)
