This is sensible and healthy but if he was gonna do that he would have done it when he was worth a mere 8 figures. Being a billionaire means you had your chance for books and margaritas on the beach and said no, I want to continue to suffer for money I will never spend.

It's 5am and I've been up for two hours smoking cigarette butts off the floor until the gas station opens. I am good at very few things but I'm pretty good with technology. But all the technologies feel evil or impossible right now.

Lots of things are hypothetically possible if we posit a world where the thoughts in people's heads are different. Where we don't think about viruses and cryptocurrencies and nuclear weapons and bump stocks and all the other shit we come up with. Hypotheticals are free to be impossible.

IPNS uses a Merkle Tree as well, but does not make trillionaires and does not burn the planet for no reason. It's free as well as slower and less convenient. Very few people love IPNS

Cryptocurrency is a technology. The formula for a cryptocurrency is a data structure called a Merkle Tree + a "proof" which can currently be proof of wasting energy or proof of being already rich + evil. Subtract the evil and the proof and you get a Merkle Tree, which is very cool!

In theory we can swap out DNS with something else that isn't run by a handful of barely known corporations. Crypto folks love them some ENS, the Ethereum name system, but I don't think we need trillionaires and Ethereum is how you get trillionaires. Which brings us back to technology.

This was spurred by namespaces on the Internet. Rough explanation: HTTPS has two big steps. Step one we go to DNS, the domain name system. This gives your browser two things: an IP address and a certificate. Step two we go to the IP address and says hey, you got signature for this certificate?

My guess is it goes something like "the world is awful" -> "I should help" -> "I'm posting on social media" -> "My posting on social media is helping" -> "this guy tells me my posting isn't helping" -> "he must be telling me to post on different social media"
