A tiny pollinator for a tiny, Hosta flower. An uncommonly pretty common day lily (Hemerocallis fulva). It is an illegal immigrant species, but that horse has left the barn long ago in New England. A day lily for salmon lovers. And one for drama queens with extra lipstick.

A great blue heron and a double crested cormorant chilling on branches at the mill pond. Also a large turtle near the heron. The great blue heron dries his wings while the turtle looks on. A female mallard takes a self-generated shower at the pond's edge. Wings have many uses. An osprey perches over the pond, on the lookout for supper.

Three turtles on break on a pale log extending down into the pond. This is the biggest fish I've ever seen pulled out of the pond: 15 pounds, about two feet long. Being held up by the fisherman. The species is common or Eurasian carp. They came to the pond from aquarium specimens released many years ago.
