You write about how we’re struggling, we go on a great run. You write how good we’ve become, and now this happens! 😂

Yeah, there is logic to it. I just think if I were Arsenal I would sign a less elite player in that position and make sure I had the ability to offer Newcastle £110m-£120m for Isak.

Not that I want Isak to leave or we’d be guaranteed to accept that. But if I were Arsenal I’d want a shot.

Linked to today’s Transfer Flow but pretty funny Arsenal are set to drop £50m on Zubimendi (a position where they are doing fine) which probably rules them out bidding for Isak (who is literally the player who would transform them into title winners, in my humble opinion).

Bournemouth will be interesting but you look ahead and think schedule could remain soft:

Bournemouth - big injuries, long trip and second away game for them in week
Southampton - need I say more
Fulham - at home, suits us
Man City - away but they still look a mess
Forest - tough but again at home

100%. Very comfortable with offloading aging high earners (Wilson, Trippier, Almiron etc.), squad players (Willock, Longstaff etc.) and one of the three elite players if that funds a rebuild.

Did we build? No, of course not. We imploded. What a mess of a season this is becoming.

I feel like the Isak miss once he had rounded the keeper sums up our season so far! Got to build on that first half performance now.

Agree re: Big Joe. I wonder if the move in January is sell Longstaff (ideally) or Willock, promote Miley back into the match day squad and spend the money (either in Jan or the Summer) on a right winger?

100% agree. Also Howe basically vetoed Trippier to Bayern in January, and less than a year later has decided he’s only the number 2 right back. Which is a bit maddening to say the least.

I think the challenge is we underestimate how hard the big sponsorships are. We need money at a Big 6 level but we’ve been less successful than all of them over past 30 years, which means it’s so difficult to convince a non-Saudi sponsor to drop money at a level needed to push us on.
November 30, 2024 at 7:51 PM
Yeah. And the sad situation with FFP seems to be there is no way to replace the aging guys without trading an elite player or two. Very frustrating.
November 30, 2024 at 5:41 PM
The most frustrating thing is when we click (e.g second half against Forest) we look unstoppable but it’s just happened so rarely.

It’s sad as I think we all hoped this Bruno/Isak/Gordon etc era could be elite but it increasingly looks like to make the next leap we’ll need a bit of a rebuild.
November 30, 2024 at 5:27 PM
And just like that it goes from ‘we did well to grind that out’ to ‘that was a totally abject away performance with no shots on target’.

Surely no chance he gets confirmed?

Fair point!

He’s been our most improved player this season. Six months ago I’d have said Tino was the best of our two young full backs, now I’d say Hall.

Still a way to go though as I feel like every game he has a defensive moment where you think ‘Oh no’, but seems to have got away with them all recently.

Be interested in your take as to what extent Newcastle actually want to deter interest in Isak and Bruno. Assuming the view is that the current squad isn't CL ready, would a big sale not hugely help with easing the PSR shackles?

Good move Luke. X has become toxic and unusable but sadly one of the things that keeps me going back is lack of good football reporters who are here.
October 23, 2024 at 8:27 AM
Yeah. Looking at the accounts I follow on Twitter, a good portion of the UK ones are on here but virtually none of the US ones are.

Interesting data Theo. And very much the reason why I’ve signed up here. I’ve used Twitter for about 15 years but the combination of allowance of hate speech and the algorithm serving up increasing amounts of trash/disinformation/bots has made me want to try something different.
