The City and the City by China Miéville. Very interesting premise on this one. Only 40 pages in and I’m intrigued. My first Mieville, I also have Perdido Street Station to read before the end of the year 💙📚🪐

Picked up Neon Ghosts on Friday evening, doing the physical/ audio at the same time. The world building felt a bit exposition heavy at first. You can tell Greene was having fun creating this world and I’m not sure all of it needed to be included. Now the plots rolling I’m enjoying it a bit more 💙📚🪐

Had a blast at NFL London yesterday with my lovely wife. Jags well beaten and over early as a contest but it was great to see so many other NFL fans in the UK. This is the first time I’ve been in a few years and I’m hoping it won’t be that long before I go again. Hoping for a Chiefs game next time 🏈

Popped on The Book that broke her heart by Mark Lawrence. I am instantly reminded of how much I love the tone of this trilogy. I think the narration really compliments the story wonderfully 📚💙

My last spooky read will be another Joe Hill, his yet to be released King Sorrow. There’s a lot of hype around this one, a lot of positive arc reviews and the premise sounds like something you can really sink your teeth into. I heard it’s a thick boy at a tidy 900ish pages so I’ll be doing this last

20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill. I’ve read two Hill books up to now, I loved one and thought the other was fine. Here’s hoping I enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed Heart Shaped Box.

Revival by Stephen King. Are you even doing spooky season without King? I will officially have read all the King in the house after this. That means I get to do a big book shop once I finish this, right?

The Passage by Justin Cronin. Another one that’s been languishing on the shelf for too long. The premise sounds extremely interesting!

Our Share of night by Mariana Enriquez. I’ve had this one on the shelf for a while and keep putting it off. The time is now! I found this one by asking a Waterstones employee for a horror recommendation that isn’t King and this is what they handed me. I haven’t even read the blurb!

Barbarian directed by Zach Cregger is absolutely fantastic. This and Weapons are two of my favourite films I’ve watched this year. A bit gutted there’s only these two horrors he’s done so far. Excited to see a Resident Evil film in the works, I’ll be watching that in the cinema

Stopped by Forbidden Planet whilst I was in London this weekend and picked up these two books for spooky season 💙📚🩸

Darujhistan as a setting is so cool. Particularly loving the rooftop sequences. On a macro level the city just feels so lived in, it’s incredibly well fleshed out. The Broken Binding special edition helped me visualise and my goodness how great is this artwork?

Weapons is without a doubt my favourite film that has come out this year. This is now my favourite horror. I love the old school feel to the camera angles/ jumpy bits. I love the story. Fan-bloody-tastic

2 chapters into South of Broad by Pat Conroy, my first ever Conroy book, boy this man can WRITE. Wonderful prose, very evocative. I suddenly really want to visit Charleston. Don’t know anything about it but it sounds beautiful in this book 💙📚

Sailing to Serantium by Guy Gavriel Kay

Only 20% into this one. I’m really taking my time, rereading sections and letting myself become fully immersed in the story. It’s nice to slow down sometimes. This is my fourth GGK book and I am coming to the realisation that I’m a big fan of his work. 💙📚

City in Ruins by Don Winslow

I’ve been looking forward to reading this for a while. Great start so far, it reads like a film. Could definitely see this as good material for an adaptation 💙📚

The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks. Only about 1/3 of the way into this one. It’s damn weird so far. 💙📚

Children of gods and Fighting men is my favourite fantasy book I’ve read this year… and I’ve read some good ones! Fantastic blend of fantasy and history. Well realised characters and compelling story. Also free on audible at the moment. Very highly recommend 💙📚🪐

My first S A Cosby novel, All the sinners bleed. A compelling start, I feel like I’m going to finish this one quickly 💙📚

Started Malice by John Gwynne this afternoon. Solid enough start so far, I’ll be interested to see how this compares to the Bloodsworn 🪐📚💙

Stephen King’s Misery is book 81 of 2024 and a great way to finish off the year. 🩸📚💙 A horror/ thriller with an iconic antagonist in Annie Wilkes this book is a must read for fans of the genre. My only criticism is it felt like it went on slightly too long for what it is but I’m splitting hairs ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tiered my read novels for the year for some fun. Ask me to do it another day and it might turn out differently. The top tier isn’t ordered as they’re all fantastic and it was too hard. Overall a fantastic reading year, really looking forward to 2025 🪐📚💙
