Agreed - it is pro football for younger players, detached from any thought of actually being enrolled in college, with both the programs & players needing to do whatever maximizes their net income

Nah - white guys are the true victims of our time - just ask Ross Douthat 😏
December 18, 2025 at 12:05 AM
That is not going to slow down Douthat, who has become much more assertive this year as the NYT platform for hard right talking points
December 17, 2025 at 5:06 PM
No surprise it is the centerpiece of the latest Ross Douthat column 😏

“For about a decade, under woke and racial-reckoning conditions, certain important American institutions appeared to systematically disfavor younger white men”

We do agree on that scene as the crazed culmination of Jane defining her life pretty much exclusively through her job (which in the flash forward where are they now reunion/final scene at the end of the movie she is sort of trying to repair)

Thanks for the reply - we clearly part ways on the significance of splicing into the interview his fake tears as a window into his character, as he acknowledges later by saying he was promoted for doing that

As real great guy Aaron, who figured out the ruse, puts it, Tom is for Aaron the devil

Respectfully disagree that Tom Grunick (William Hurt) was a great guy despite allegedly finding his moral compass at the end of the movie by hiring Jane to be his editor after climbing the ladder to be nightly news anchor

Movie from the mid-80s had a good vision of where TV “news” was heading

Memories are fresh enough for Ronald Suskind, who turns a blowtorch on the legacy of Dick Cheney and connects the dots in this NYT column between Cheney’s abuses of executive power and those of Trump’s second term🔥

Called his own plays for 4 Super Bowl champs and shredded in SB XIII the vaunted cutting edge defense with Cowboys LB Henderson who made the crack about not being able to spell. He needs to go but the “I am just a dumb country boy” schtick was an act that made him rich in his post-NFL TV career

Spoiler alert - prosecutors do not get to tell judges how to rule and if a judge wants to stick it to you then all you can do is appeal - no appeal from SCOTUS

“Republicans, loyal to the pre-1964 constitution, could not acknowledge (or even see) that the only way back to the free country of their ideals was through the repeal of the civil rights laws.”
