I think the idea is that some have funds coming in from abroad and, if so, we’d like them to contribute to living costs as opposed to buying other things. I think I’m at ease with that if it is applied REASONABLY.

Truly mind-boggling that he believes he has been silenced when he’s omnipresent in the press.
If you consistently set out to punch down on a minority group, and utterly refuse to accept that many people disagree with your bigotry & your hectoring, then this is where you will deservedly end up.

The hysteria/testeria yesterday was, predictably, unfounded

And oh look - it was at best exaggerated and at worst completely untrue

I’m also finding that Bluesky is becoming a bit Twxtteresque and not in a good way

I am contributing to that by joining in political chitchat

I must change and I hope Bluesky doesn’t slip too far

Loads of reaction to something which hasn’t been announced. It might be that people would have to use assets before receiving support, just as in the welfare system, but somehow everyone’s decided they will confiscate jewellery. Let’s see. If they do announce that then I’ll join the outrage.

Alt text: a selction of four street photography shots in black & white. Various aspects of London life ranging from a huge elephant sculpture with passers-by to street art/graffiti to silhouettes in More London with a low winter sun to a hands-free cyclist in front of a classic terrace of shops.

Attacking female Cabinet Ministers on their appearance?
How lovely.

He literally says “no of course not” in that clip (thank you for sharing).
I will share the disbelief and disgust if it’s announced today in the Commons that jewellery would be taken.

The first half of your sentence is obvious and true, and it happens too often, but that doesn’t make the second half also true. If it is formally announced today as reported then I will also criticise but I imagine it is at least lost in translation.

Call me old-fashioned but I prefer to wait for actual Government announcements and, if objectionable, object then.

The Sun being a hugely reliable and impartial source, of course

London is also diverse. It's hugely multicultural, and it's a largely tolerant and welcoming place.

Sure it has it's problems and the housing crisis is a big one.

But the haters don't hate this city because of that.

They hate it because it stands as living proof that multiculturalism works.

Should we mourn selfish pricks who refuse to contribute to society having benefited from that same society?
November 16, 2025 at 12:11 PM
Yes. Although: the Tories are much more adept as a tribe at thinking “we’ve got power and we’re going to keep it.” There are limits of course but I think Labour as a team can learn from that. Accentuate the positives, and there are many, and accept that no Government will ever be a constant delight.

I found the Winter Fuel Allowance decision extremely challenging, I must confess. I do see many positives though so am keeping the faith myself. Bon weekend 🙂
