It does! It can bring luck or misfortune to whichever household it enters. And it likes to steal money and food for the people living there. Murka means the purring sound a cat makes 🙂

Oh I have something really fun! In Lithuanian mythology there's a creature called an Aitvaras - it's a dragon that takes the form of a rooster or cat, usually. (In my story it's a black cat named Murka). Here's one depiction of it:

It's Fantasy. The protagonist is 21, but I'd still probably call it Young Adult.
